🎯 Why Was LedgerPlus Made?

LedgerPlus was developed with a social impact focus, specifically targeted at migrant workers and low-to-middle-income segments in the GCC and developing corridors.

Financial Inclusion & Debt Vulnerability Migrant workers moving abroad often lack access to structured financial systems, making them highly vulnerable to predatory loan cycles, hidden bank fees, and high-interest debt traps.

The Remittance Trap Sending money home is a monthly obligation. Many workers are misled by low upfront transaction fees, failing to recognize hidden markups built directly into foreign exchange spreads.

Rights Education & Scams Migrants frequently lack awareness of standard labor protections (such as visa laws, illegal passport confiscation, and overtime limits) and easily fall victim to SMS, WhatsApp, and visa-fee scams.

Social Debt (Udhaar) Informally lending microsums to peers or housemates is a cultural norm. However, asking for repayment is socially awkward, leading to relational strains or quietly unrecovered losses.

⚙️ Technological Architecture

Built with Flutter (Dart) for cross-platform Native rendering. Uses the Provider pattern for highly decoupled state management (separating budget engines from views). The local storage operates on Hive (a high-performance local transactional key-value store), allowing the app to run 100% offline so workers with limited data plans retain constant access. Secure cloud backups are managed via an optional Firebase bridge when connectivity is available.

Dynamic Cash Flow Forecasting

Includes a 30-day projection engine. By evaluating the user's recurring commitments (rent, utilities, standard remittance commitments), the app forecasts their balance trend and alerts them of potential deficits before they occur.

Remittance Audit

Exchange Rate & Fee Tracker

Allows migrant workers to log transaction amounts, fees, and exchange rates. The system helps workers audit their transfers over time to identify which exchange houses or channels offer the best rates.

OCR Scanning

Receipt Scanning & Localization

Integrates Google ML Kit OCR. Users can snap photos of cash receipts, and the model extracts totals and categorizes them. The parser is trained on Middle East retail keywords (e.g., Lulu/Carrefour for food, DEWA/ADDC for utilities).

Gamified Learning

Financial Literacy Hub

Features a 3-tier syllabus (Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced) teaching budgeting, saving, and specialized modules: Dangers of illegal Hawala networks, detecting OTP bank fraud, overtime labor rights, and affordable healthcare lists.

Validation

Verification Quizzes & Completion Certificates

Every education module ends with an interactive verification quiz. Correct answers award virtual "Knowledge Coins." Completing the entire course generates an official Certificate of Completion signed by the Founder to validate the user's new financial literacy skills.
